So Many Poker Websites

September 30, 2005

You can usually tell they have nothing as they start to fidget when it is about 2 Pacificpoker players away from where they can muck their hand, and rush outside. A few subtle tells I noticed was with gum chewers. Some will start to chew freely until they get a hand that they find favorable, then they start to slow down until they stop chewing.

If they have no idea of why they should respect a check raise, except that it makes no sense to them, using it as a tactic to confuse or other wise out-play them is also a waste of time. You start to realize that your fancy plays are useless at these levels. Usually you will have to show down the best Pacificpoker hand, against a lot of callers on the river.

How to Create a Good Poker Website

  1. I left three days in advance of BARGE (Thank Heavens). The limo fights Sunday evening traffic for two and a half hours to get to LGA in NYC (normally a 50-minute trip). I can hear the driver mumbling under his breath something to the effect that he could have had the night off, if it wasn't for me. I arrive two hours early for takeoff.
  2. The more you talk, the more likely they will call THE FIRST TIME. The more animated you become, the more you babble the more things your Pacificpoker opponent will find as a reason to call you. I played in a game that was dominated by 4 drunks having fun (not really playing serious poker).
  3. In 7 stud there is no benefit to checking in the dark and it is the sign of a weak player. Anytime you check without looking at your last card you are playing Pacificpoker without information, and anytime you are playing without information you are gambling. Everything a good 7-stud player does is designed to eliminate the gamble in his/her play.
  4. This was necessary to keep from having to pack too much weight, not only on my back, but also around my waist. Next came camouflage, I had to be devious, and make myself blend into the background so that the prey I was after would mistake me for a tree, a bolder or anything but a hunter.

While I was in Vegas, I sat at a table where a Pacificpoker player regularly requested some new cards, but not because they were damaged, but because the player involved believed that the new deck would change his luck. A few days later I was playing at the Hacienda and asked for a deck change when my 'luck' was running bad.

Since you can switch back and forth between the accounts regularly, nobody gets too familiar with your playing style. The same thing applies to live Pacificpoker games. If you have multiple options, be inclined to travel to different cardrooms. Occasionally play different limits or games altogether.
